Google: Spam Update Hits Won't Be Fixed By Removal Internal Duplicate Content

Google's John Mueller said that removing internal duplicate content and other technical issue fixes won't lead to your site recovering from a Google spam update. John said that these spam updates look more at the "actual content" than if you have technical issues or duplicate content on your site.

Google: Ignore Spammy Links Even When A Whole Penalized Site Is Redirected To You

Google's advice since Penguin 4.0 was that you don't need to disavow links since the links are neutralized and don't end up helping or hurting you. In short, Google ignores those links. This even applies to when someone redirects a site that was penalized for spammy links to your site, said John Mueller of Google.

Google: Having Duplicate Content URLs In Sitemap File Won't Likely Cause Ranking Issues

Google's John Mueller confirmed on Twitter that having a Sitemap file that lists pages that are duplicative to others, won't necessarily cause ranking issues for your site. It might confuse Google when it comes to crawling but it should not impact rankings, John said.
